Earlier this week I put in note in our newsroom that we should check in on whatever happened to Smed’s game, but as it happens, Smed’s gonna do it for us.
“We’re excited to announce we just closed another round of funding and we’re going into Early Access on Steam in May,” Reaper Actual company Distinct Possibility Studios announced last night.
“Distinct Possibility Studios, the independent game development company behind the highly anticipated online shooter Reaper Actual, today announced it has closed an additional round of funding led by Decasonic. The new capital will be used to support development and the upcoming launch of Reaper Actual on Steam Early Access in the coming weeks. Financial terms of the investment are not being disclosed. The company also announced that gaming industry veterans Bing Gordon, and Paul Hsu have joined its Board of Directors.”
Hsu is the CEO of blockchain venture capital outfit Decasonic, while Gordon has a long history on the board of multiple AAA gaming companies and is knee-deep in venture capital and AI.
The game we’re talking about here, Reaper Actual, is an extraction-centric MMOFPS we’ve likened to PlanetSide 3. Former SOE/Daybreak exec John Smedley assembled a team packed with ex-PlanetSide 2 devs to build it, and it hit paid alpha last fall before scrolling right off everyone’s attention span. Apparently, we shouldn’t count this one out just yet.
