We’re having a bit of a week for low-key launches here in the MMORPG genre, and here comes another one: SpiderWare’s controversial “pixel-art action roguelite” MMORPG Soulbound Online has officially entered early access as of today.

“Soulbound is a pixel-art action-MMO where every dungeon run reshapes your build,” the studio says. “Charge into roguelite dungeons with friends in 3-player co-op, chain devastating ability combos from 100+ combinations, and return to a living open world where you farm, craft, and uncover a mystery that runs deeper than any dungeon floor.”

However, buyer beware: As we’ve been noting, Soulbound is apparently a “clean” version of the crypto-laden blockchain MMO Worldwide Webb, which was closed in favor of this more palatable version that could launch on Steam as if it were a brand-new indie game. Steam reviews suggest that some former fans aren’t ready to let the devs bury that fact; players accuse the studio of pulling a “slow rug” that “scammed their original community out of millions of dollars.” Others point to sketchy AI art (undisclosed on Steam), as well as evidence of fake supporters, vibecoding, studio toxicity and crunch.

That’s a lotta red flags, but it hasn’t stopped 1200 people (as I type this) from buying the game (just under $13 right now) and logging in. Well, at least you know. Mind your data and your refund timers if you’re going in anyway.
