It’s been a whirlwind of hype since we’ve known this game existed for only about a year, but Astroneer spinoff Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions has officially made it to early access on Steam, Xbox, PS5, and Switch 2. As we’ve been covering, this is System Era Softworks’ next big thing, and it’s not just a new take on the Astroneer sandbox; it’s more multiplayer, more cozy, and more structured in terms of content too, like the titular expeditions, which are basically co-op extraction missions. It’s also a purely online title with no offline play, which has definitely thrown some of the early reviewers, who are complaining there’s no longer any way to play solo.
The game is expected to stay in early access for at least year; this version already has a “fully playable cross-platform, cross-progression online multiplayer” loop, with missions, crafting, rep, and story already in place. The roadmap over the next three (undated) updates include new regions, missions, field ops, underwater content, minigames, events, weather mechanics, gear, critters, and QOL.
“What you’ll find on day one is the starting shape of the game,” the studio says. “What the launch on June 11, 2026 represents is the beginning of the conversation we have been wanting to have with you for a long, long time. The game will grow. It will adapt. The people who come in on day one are participants in what comes next, not an audience for a finished thing. We have been building toward this moment since 2019. Now we get to find out what it becomes.”
Worth noting is that SES isn’t abandoning OG Astroneer; the team has committed to monthly updates for at least the rest of 2026.
