Smash hit co-op space cleanup game Moon Sweepers is "nowhere near finished" as it soars past the half-million mark

There’s such a flood of new releases on Steam in 2026 that getting noticed can be tough. The tradeoff is that those breaking through are often seeing huge success, and Moon Sweepers is among the latest to join that crowd. The space-tidying co-op game sold more than 600,000 copies in its first few days, and its concurrent player count has been gradually growing throughout the weekend, currently sitting at 80,385 and climbing as I write this. Yet developer DragDrop Games says it’s “just getting started.”

“When we started working on Moon Sweepers we never imagined that our little game about cleaning the Moon with a toothbrush would reach this many players around the world,” the developer writes. The concept is simple but effective: you and your crew have been assigned with clearing the Moon of pesky Lunar Dust. Unfortunately, budget constraints mean that after travel costs and basic tools for survival, you’ve only been able to afford a toothbrush to work with. It’s going to be a long day…

The good news is that the more dust you gather, the more funds you’ll get your hands on, allowing you to upgrade to a bigger broom, then gradually larger and more flexible brush types. Keep going and you’ll be able to afford a sweeper truck. Eventually, you can start plopping down solar panels, buildings, and conveyor belts, transforming your initial hard graft into a gradually flourishing empire. It’s basically Powerwash Sim or Viscera Cleanup Detail in space with a touch of Astroneer, and it’s already proved to be a winner.

“We’ve been working hard on fixing bugs and improving the game since launch,” DragDrop continues, “but we’re also preparing something much bigger.” That something is Moon Sweepers update 1.1, which aims “to bring a lot more depth to the game.” In particular, the team is focusing on improving the late game, which is relatively simple so far. “We know many of you want more things to unlock and bigger factories to build.”

On the list for the update are new production machines and chains, additional materials and products (requiring more complex production lines), and extra tools and upgrades. DragDrop is also working on more automation potential, particularly at a larger scale, further building options and improvements, and expansions to the progression. It’s also been tackling performance and optimization, especially as bases grow bigger and more complex.

Moon Sweepers update 1.1 is set to launch in December. Beyond that, there’s one obvious question, however. “Some of you have been wondering what happens once you’ve finally cleaned the entire Moon,” DragDrop acknowledges. “Spoiler alert: more work.” The studio says it has “some exciting plans for what comes after.” While it’s not yet ready to reveal exactly what that means, it teases: “let’s just say that cleaning the Moon might only be the beginning of your career.”

It might have far outstripped its expected sales, but DragDrop reassures players: “We’re nowhere near finished with Moon Sweepers. We’re still reading your feedback every day and using it to decide what to improve next. There are still bugs to fix and plenty of things we want to make better. We’re doing our best to deliver updates as quickly as possible. Thank you again for making this launch something we’ll never forget. Now get back to sweeping.”
