Terrible Posture Games announced a major update for their roguelite shooter Mothergunship: Forge, the first major update in three years.

Called the “Thank You, Recruit! Update,” it drops on October 15, bringing a whole slew of changes to the well-reviewed game.

First and foremost, the game has received a massive behind-the-scenes upgrade to its core engine, from Unreal 4 to Unreal 5.7. On the content-side, the game gets two new modes: Ascension Mode offers an ever-increasing difficulty to test your skills, while Daily Mode offers new leaderboards and wacky modifiers to present “unique and sometimes ridiculous challenges and surprises.”

The new update also brings optional hand tracking implementation to Quest platforms. Hand tracking is auto-detected, allowing for seamless transition between hands and controllers, plus a new tutorial has been implemented to familiarize players with the new hand tracking controls.

The addition of hand tracking likely was spurred by Meta’s recent announcement of its upcoming VR device VR Glasses, which can play all Quest games but does not ship with controllers. Every game that Meta spotlighted during its most recent Connect, during which VR Glasses debuted, emphasized full hand tracked control schemes. Mothergunship now joins their ranks.

Lastly, the developers of Mothergunship: Forge are keen to mention that the update brings “a ton of polishing, balancing fixes, bug fixes, and connecting issue fixes that we’ve been wanting to tackle over the last couple of years.”

We reviewed Mothergunship: Forge back in 2022, describing the game as “an outrageous amount of fun.”

Mothergunship: Forge can be found on Quest, where it’s rated 4.7 out of 5 stars, and on Steam, where it has earned a Very Positive rating.
