When is a cooperative action RPG not particularly cooperative? When you and your team are fighting to both get through a dungeon and earn the most points to top a leaderboard. This is the overall design of Marked for Mayhem, a multiplayer game from indie studio Bladework Games where “the mission is shared, the glory isn’t.”
“Enter Galus’s fractured reality, where multiple dimensions converge. The wake of the cataclysm has bred not only resilience but a new form of entertainment. You and your rival Operators must embark on missions across shattered dimensions to take down the most feared enemies on Galus. There’s just one problem. Only one Operator can win. Let the chaos commence!”
While this one tries to toe a line between co-op and competition, it also reads less like a game where random PvP breaks out so much as a race for points through performance in combat, clearing time trials, or “mindspace trials,” though players can also choose to unleash a disruptor ability against either friend or foe to steal points.
Players will be able to select a weapon, find new abilities and modifiers during each run, and upgrade their drone with new augments to ramp up for the next dungeon dive, while each run promises dungeons full of traps, enemies, and bosses. And opportunities to try and steal the points lead along the way.
Marked for Mayhem is targeting a release for sometime in 2027, but it is taking signups for a beta test through Discord. Otherwise interested players can wishlist the game on Steam or EGS and can get a look at what this one’s all about in the trailer below.
