Unless you follow the financial circuit every three months, you might not have noticed that Nexon’s MapleStory M, the mobile sequel to its wildly popular MMORPG MapleStory, has been performing extremely well around the globe and keeping the MS franchise flush with cash and attention. And soon, gamers will have a new way to play it, as this week Nexon announced the idler MMO is coming to Steam too.
“Following its massive success with over 75 million registered users worldwide, Nexon America is bringing the globally beloved mobile sensation, MapleStory M, to Steam on March 18,” the company says. “This platform expansion marks a major milestone for the game, bringing the game’s signature auto-battling experience to the desktop. Fully optimized for PC, it offers a seamless way to enjoy the classic MMORPG with the convenience of AFK and offline progression.”
Don’t wanna wait that long? There’s already a free public demo through Steam; Nexon says it’ll stay online through the launch. Progress in the demo will carry over the launch, and the demo is the same as the full version, according to Nexon, so this is actually more like an early access with no wipe.
This isn’t actually the first time the game has come to PC as it hit PC way back in 2024, but that version does have crossplay with the mobile version, as long as you have a linked Nexon account. Nexon’s Steam FAQ on all this is a bit confusing, but it does sound as if crossplay will also be on Steam (i.e., the Steam version will just run the Nexon launcher and you’ll still need a Nexon account):
“All game data, such as character information and payment history, is managed based on the MapleStory M account and is not saved to or tied to the STEAM account. […] You can continue playing with the same MapleStory M account across STEAM, mobile, and PC environments. However, you cannot log in to multiple environments simultaneously with the same account.”
