A dev studio called Octopus Panic. A game where you play as one of several dog-headed fighters. Waves of foes on wild alien worlds. About the only thing this game has that’s routine is that it’s basically an extraction shooter, but we figure we can afford it a bit of grace in that regard considering everything else it showed off during Gamescom. Say hello to Gravhounds.
This upcoming co-op extraction “action builder” for up to four players sees teams band together to land on hostile planets, build various defenses like turrets, and get out alive with valuable resources, all while surviving waves of increasingly violent creatures. Players will be able to utilize gear like an anti-gravity gun to fling resources to friends or enemies to anything else and a rocket pack for swift maneuvering, while they can also unlock new abilities and upgrades mid-fight.
As for progression, there are some additional roguelike elements at play here too, with more challenging planets yielding greater resources and rewards; the ability to unlock new characters, weapons, and upgrade paths; and of course the choice of staying on-site longer for the chance at more goodies, although that carries the increasing danger of a stronger swarm.
The game is eyeing an early access release on Monday, November 2nd, on PC via Steam and Xbox, with signups for a later playtest now open for Steam players that can be signed up for by clicking on the shiny green “request access” button. Otherwise, the reveal trailer that debuted can be watched below. Bark bark.
