Welcome back to another roundup of MMOs and MMO-adjacent multiplayer games you’ve never heard of! And this time around, we’ve got literally nothing but MMORPGs to share in this feature! Or at least games that call themselves as much! Yeehaw!
Empire Rising
We’ll begin with a check-in on a game we’ve covered before, the Face of Mankind rogue server Empire Rising. The game was previously entering into open beta last year, but the plan shifted and it’s now in open alpha instead. This test phase is set to run until sometime in the second quarter of 2027, after which it promises closed beta, open beta, and release.
Biomes
Next up is an interesting spin on the sandbox MMORPG. Say hello to Biomes, an open source indie effort from Global Illumination that describes itself as a blend of MMO, RPG, and cozy themes, with weekly story adventures that take a couple of hours to clear, while additional activities like farming, building a home, taking up job board tasks, and playing minigames are offered. The game is currently in an open alpha that can be in a browser here.
Spawn World
Last on the list is Spawn World, a PvPvE “simulated sandbox MMORPG” that promises skill-driven combat, land claiming and settlement features, a player-driven economy, and large-scale wars. The game is currently in the second phase of its closedalpha testing, which can be entered through the purchase of one of several founder’s packs, or it can be wishlisted on Steam.
