Aliens Fireteam Elite 2’s launch earlier this week wasn’t without its issues, but it has soldiered on. It’s even recovered from its “mostly negative” reviews to merely “mixed,” which is probably more fair.
Daybreak-owned Cold Iron Studios did dispatch a memo to fans on Thursday, telling them that it’s working on technical issues and asking for feedback.
“From everyone at Cold Iron Studios, thank you for the amazing support you’ve shown Aliens: Fireteam Elite 2. Seeing players around the world jump in, squad up, and take on the Xenomorph threat has been an exciting experience for our team. As more players enter the fight, we’re also closely following your feedback and reports. We’re aware that some players have encountered technical issues, and our team is actively reviewing those reports and working to address them as quickly as possible.”
“Launch is just the beginning,” the team concludes. “We’ll continue listening to your feedback, supporting the game, and keeping you informed as we work through the issues being reported by the community.”
It’s hard to say exactly how well the game is doing since we don’t have numbers for console or EGS, but at least on Steam, the game peaked around 8000 concurrent on launch day. Presumably, that number will only go up this weekend.
As we noted on launch day, the initial run of negative reviews seemed propelled in part by the sunset of the only playable Switch version of the OG Aliens Fireteam Elite and Daybreak’s decision to make amends by giving players a discount for the sequel.
