Fantasy roguelike In Death: Unchained’s long-running current season will end on September 29 with Fall Season 2026 starting on the same day.

It should be noted that Superbright is only responsible for In Death Unchained, the Quest version of the game. The original In Death on SteamVR was developed by Sólfar Studios and has not been updated in several years.

Wojtek, the CEO of developer Superbright posted an update on the fantasy game’s Discord detailing the company’s troubled history in recent years and plans for the future:

The last two years have not been easy. We were working on something new alongside our work on In Death: Unchained, and we had some difficulties of our own to deal with. The war in Ukraine affecting our guys and what’s been happening across the games industry added to that too.

We’re a smaller team now trying to juggle multiple responsibilities. We weren’t sure when we’d have something concrete to share. We didn’t want to get your hopes up before we knew we could follow through.

Through all of this, your messages and emails have meant so much to us. Hearing that this is people’s favorite game, that you’re still playing, people asking us for a way to pay for the game again just to support us… wow, that meant a lot to us on a personal level. It really did help keep us going.

So I’m really happy to tell you: a new season is on the way, and we’ve made sure season changes are going to come every six months or so from now on. There’s more, but right now I just wanted to give you this heads up ahead of sharing the details on our socials soon.

By now, it should not be necessary to detail the plethora of layoffs and closures that struck the gaming industry in the last few years and from Wojtek’s message, the ongoing Russia/Ukraine war was an additional complicating factor for Superbright. Companies have been forced to pivot direction or cancel projects outright as the ecosystem’s struggles continue.

For anyone unfamiliar with how Unchained handles its season changes, the leaderboards award you ‘Legend Points’ based on your overall performance to rank up and unlock rewards. The boards then reset, but you retain your achievements.

Acknowledging how long the current season has lasted, Superbright is also giving bonus Legend Points to anyone who participated in the season, including from now until it ends later this month. The bonus will reportedly be “large enough for even a player starting from zero Legend Points to unlock a reward.”

In Death Unchained is available now on Meta Quest.
