You would think that a new entry in the Conqueror’s Blade series of multiplayer strategy titles would be a thing to be celebrated, but it would seem as though the newest game released earlier this week is not exactly sparking joy. At least that seems to be the case if Steam’s user reviews are any indication.

The game is Conqueror’s Blade: Three Kingdoms, a strategy title that, as its name would suggest, takes place during the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history. Players take up the combat styles and units of various heroic figures of the period (yes including Lu Bu), then attempt to build fortifications, establish supply routes, and master the improved terrain of the game’s large shared open world. As for combat, that blends direct character control and unit orders as players attack or defend their holdings and ultimately culminating in a final massive confrontation on the battleground of Luoyang.

However, as we noted in the lede, the free-to-play game is currently being absolutely toasted in Steam user reviews with an “overwhelmingly negative” score as gamers complain about long grinds, bemoan daily and weekly limits on gaining resources, and accuse the game of paywalling some of its weapon classes and being pay-to-win. The game’s launch has also not been without its bugs, which appears to be the primary concern of developer Booming Tech.
