If adorable classic isometric MMORPGs are your jam, point your eyeballs over at Angels Online this morning, as the 20-year-old IP is getting a refreshed MMORPG international entry.
Angels Online is a new one for me, but if you’re an East Asian or console gamer, you’ve surely heard of this before because the OG Angels Online launched in Taiwan, Japan, and Southeast Asia back in 2006, followed by North America in 2007 and then a PS3 version in Japan in 2008. Along the way, the IP made it to mobile and PS4 too. Developer UserJoy and publisher Q Entertainment are now bringing it back with a modernized “global” edition and a proper Steam launch this summer.
“As the culmination of the series’ 20th anniversary, Angels Online Global returns to the myth inspired continent of Eden,” the teams write. “Designed for modern play habits, the international edition features comprehensive system improvements, including smoother progression and more stable cross region connectivity. Players will once again embark on a renewed adventure to protect Eden and stand against the forces of darkness. […] Angels Online Global preserves the full range of classic gameplay features, inviting players to rediscover the pure joy of adventure that defined the original experience.”
Those features include faction wars, housing, pets, mechs, flexible skill builds, and style customization, upgraded with a quadrupled experience rate, on-the-fly chat translation, and bigger inventories. It also sounds as if the devs have set gear to drop directly from dungeon content.
Closed beta signups are live through a Google doc as of this morning; the CBT should run May 29th to June 1st and focus on the global-specific alterations, including the chat translation system. The full launch is set for June 24th.
