All of those magical MacGuffins that you hear about in epic stories had to have come from somewhere, but what if there was a game where you were the one who gathered the handwavium, hammered it into an ingot of nonsensite, and crafted the plot armor? That is part of what 9 Yin Sutra: Immortal is offering, an upcoming “open-world sandbox cultivation game” from publisher and developer Snail Games USA.

“Step into a vast realm brought to life with Unreal Engine 5, where cultivators from around the world gather to discuss the Dao and seek eternal life. Uncover hidden realms, seize rare opportunities, decipher ancient runes, and refine wondrous treasures. In a world where danger and fortune walk side by side, how far will you go to uncover the secret of immortality?”

Players will take on the role of a character who walks in a dangerous realm between heaven and earth that spans over 1,000 square kilometers inspired by ancient Chinese myth but with space for creations from many cultural traditions. Players can forge artifacts, brew elixirs, and craft talismans through a highly flexible refinement system, using a multi-step refinement process and carefully managed material ratios to create wondrous artifacts, all with an end goal of seeking enlightenment and immortality. It’s pretty high-minded stuff.

A related FAQ provides a bit more context about the game’s overall loops, but most importantly it notes that 9 Yin is designed as “primarily a single-player cultivation sandbox experience with optional online co-op.” The post also confirms that there will be beta testing at some later date, while a similarly undated release will be on PC via Steam first and foremost to “deliver the best possible experience” before arriving to other platforms. A video using actual gameplay footage can be seen below, while the game can be wishlisted on Steam.
