GPTRACK50, an independent studio founded by former Capcom developer Hiroyuki Kobayashi (Dragon’s Dogma, Resident Evil 6), has today announced the release date for its upcoming action-RPG Stupid Never Dies, which arrives in October.

How best to celebrate? Enter Phoenix Zaza Hotfeathers, a mysterious entity who features in the new Stupid Never Dies trailer and who looks like they’ve just scored a gig as Lil Nas X’s background dancer in the “Montero” music video. While we don’t know whether he’s a friend, foe, or something in between, we can’t deny that he has an excellent choice in fashion, and looks like he borrowed the same fiery wings of Johnny Gat from Saints Row. We do love a morally complex character, but we especially adore one if they can fly.

Stupid Never Dies follows Davy, a shy and introverted zombie whose quest to bring Julia, a frozen human girl, back to life forces him to embark on a monster-filled quest. As a zombie, Davy is at the very bottom of the rung in Stupid Never Dies‘ monster-ruled society, but hey, maybe love is enough to conquer all?

Along the way, Davy will have to customize his undead body with wacky upgrades and steal enemies’ abilities. These can be demons, vampires, werewolves, and even ghosts. No matter who Davy is chowing down on, it all helps add up to getting Julia back.

While players will get to follow Davy and his zany antics no matter what edition they buy, players who want to add a slew of bonus features for the game’s background music and visuals will want to purchase Stupid Never Dies‘ first DLC, TickTock Teddies: Nonsense Overload. Better yet, players will get the chance to listen to the game’s soundtrack even before the game releases, with the soundtrack becoming available to stream on Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, and other major music streaming platforms on Aug. 4.

Additionally, the studio announced that the RPG would be co-published with Persona publisher Sega, with whom GPTRACK50 has entered into a co-publishing agreement.

“We are delighted and deeply grateful to Sega for their publishing partnership and support as we bring the first of many games from GPTRACK50 to players,” said Hiroyuki Kobayashi, president of GPTRACK50. “Stupid Never Dies is an ambitious action game that introduces a number of original gameplay systems, and working with a publisher as experienced as Sega has been invaluable. Together, our team remains committed to delivering a game that we believe players around the world will enjoy.”

Stupid Never Dies will be released on Oct. 21 for PlayStation 5 and Windows PC. The game was originally announced at last year’s The Game Awards ceremony.
