Starfield Will “Become Legendary,” Says Composer, Who Believes People Weren’t Ready for its Launch

If you’ve been following Starfield since its explosive but ultimately middling launch in 2023, you’ll know that it’s been rather quiet throughout 2025. Of course, Bethesda Game Studios creative director Todd Howard recently confirmed that it’s receiving news “soonish,” and while it remains to be seen if we’ll see a comeback, one individual believes that it will eventually achieve legendary status: Composer Inon Zur.

Speaking to RPG Site, Zur described Howard as “very persuasive and has a very strong character.” “He will also find ways to describe what he wants without really calling it a name. He knows how to allow freedom of creativity on one hand, but also how to steer it to his own vision. He is a visionary. He sees things that people will start to find out years later.”

As you probably would have imagined from the headline, Zur believes this also applies to Starfield. “When Starfield released, I believe people were just not ready for it. It’s a different way of looking at it, but Todd is really strong, and he said very, very lightly, ‘Look, if you don’t like it, then you don’t like it, but this is the new thing that we’re doing, and we’re sticking to it.’

“He believes in his way, and it just has proven time and time again that eventually people will understand his vision. It just takes time, and this is a common thing for all the big visionaries. Sometimes people really don’t understand them correctly, but they were strong enough to stay on course, and Todd will stay on course on Starfield. Starfield will eventually become something that will be legendary. I have no doubt. It’s just a matter of time.”

Of course, the next big update for the space-faring RPG isn’t one that’s exactly “2.0”-worthy (in Howard’s words, at least). Bethesda previously confirmed that it was working on “some new game systems” and a “few other smaller delights” along with making space gameplay feel “more rewarding.” Then there’s the new story DLC, which may introduce a new faction in the Terran Armada.

Based on rumors, we may see the debut of interplanetary travel, though how this will work remains to be seen. And while the company hasn’t really outlined the long-term future of Starfield, especially as work on The Elder Scrolls 6 continues, Howard said back in 2023 that it would receive a “lot” of post-launch DLC of “varying sizes.” Whether plans have changed in the interim, especially with all the work done on updates, is unknown.

Then there’s the alleged PS5 launch on April 7th with pre-orders reportedly beginning on March 17th. As always, stay tuned for the official announcement if and when it arrives.
