  • A new look at Crazy Taxi: World Tour’s West Coast map
        • Crazy Taxi: World Tour feels surprisingly modern

Sega’s new Crazy Taxi game won’t be out until 2027, but some lucky wannabe cabbies will get a chance to try it out early. On Tuesday, Sega announced a Crazy Taxi: World Tour multiplayer closed network test that will let select players experience two of the online multiplayer modes from the game.

The Crazy Taxi: World Tour multiplayer closed network test is scheduled to happen in mid-September, and will feature the online modes Pickup Race and Cops ‘N’ Cabbies, both of which are playable via Ranked Match or Custom Match. Sega describes Pickup Race as a mode in which up to six players “compete with each other to drop off as many passengers as possible within a set time limit, earning as much crazy money as possible.” Cops ‘N’ Cabbies features six players — spread across three two-person teams — competing against each other (and presumably outwitting the police, who would frown upon Crazy Taxi-style driving). The network test will feature two maps, four characters, and six cars “with various tune-up options,” Sega says.

Sega’s network test will run from 5 p.m. PDT on Sept. 11 through 5 p.m. PDT on Sept. 13, and will support cross-play on PlayStation 5, Windows PC (via Steam and Xbox), and Xbox Series X. Players can register for the network test at the Crazy Taxi: World Tour website until Aug. 31 at 11:59 p.m. PDT.

A new look at Crazy Taxi: World Tour’s West Coast map

In addition to the Crazy Taxi: World Tour multiplayer closed network test announcement, Sega also offered a more laid-back look at the game’s West Coast map — basically, Crazy Taxi’s version of San Francisco. The game’s latest trailer is a less frenetic, less The Offspring-powered look at the new Crazy Taxi with a peek at some fascinating new fares. Not explicitly seen in the trailer, but confirmed by Sega, are two officially licensed businesses: IHOP and Amoeba Music will both appear in Crazy Taxi: World Tour.

It’s still unclear if the likes of Pizza Hut, KFC, and Tower Records will appear in World Tour, but Sega notes that each of the game’s locations will feature regional retailers and restaurants. Given how often real-world brands have appeared in Sega’s Yakuza series, expect some big Japanese names if the Crazy Taxi: World Tour heads to Sega’s home country.

Crazy Taxi: World Tour will be available on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X when it’s released in 2027. You can read gamexplore’s hands-off preview of the game from Summer Game Fest 2026 before you (hopefully) get your hands on its multiplayer modes in September.
