Welcome back to another roundup of MMOs and MMO-adjacent multiplayer games you’ve never heard of! Our latest roundup features a trio of open world titles, one of which being a remaster. Bet you can’t guess which one of the three is the remastered one. Go on, guess.
Ancient Online Remastered
That’s right, it’s Ancient Online Remastered, which leans very heavily on the fact that it’s build on Unreal Engine 5.8 while also promising an old-school MMORPG feel. Set in a fantastical Eastern setting, the game promises an open world, plenty of PvP and PvE activities, guild features, and castle sieges. It’s currently in an alpha state with no release timing offered, while access to the test build is offered through key giveaways on its Discord.
Ael Myr Online
Next up in the list is Ael Myr Online, an open world isometric browser MMORPG that very clearly points out its FFA PvP tendencies all throughout its introduction. Any player can kill another in-game outside of towns, corpses are full loot, and the game has no instancing, hand-holding, or quests of any kind, with the dangers only getting greater the further players explore. It also lauds a classless character progression system, fully open housing, and plenty of customization.
Nodehaven
If you prefer your open world browser MMO’s to not be so filled with murderhobos, then there’s Nodehaven, a new game that’s almost exclusively about exploration, establishing player settlements, and meeting the economic demands of those settlements. Players are encouraged to wander the map’s tiles to uncover nodes (in real time, bear in mind), harvest resources to increase skills, and run a stable of characters to master different trades, all in a persistent single shard. A playtest is currently slated for sometime at the end of this month.
