Normally associating Honkai and Hoyoverse together brings to mind the single-player gacha RPG Honkai: Star Rail, but now it looks as if the developer is spreading that IP into the multiplayer RPG space with Honkai: Nexus Anima, which is quickly closing in on its release.
First, the game itself: This self-described open world creature-catching adventure RPG sees players roam the world of Iia, a modern-styled realm where the titular Anima and humans known as Animasters live. The game promises a story line to uncover, battles to take part in, and an RV to roam around in to set up camp and enjoy time with their discovered critters. Those battles, incidentally, look to be mostly idle auto-battlers, with some occasional input to summon large abilities as shown in a gameplay video.
While the game does say creatures can be captured, this also is a gacha RPG, with pulls for characters that also unlock their related Anima, though one user’s impressions from a previous beta test admits to being shocked at how many free Anima are out there and the power they can reach. Additionally, Hoyoverse confirms that when the first five-star character is earned, it’s guaranteed to be the current limited one on the banner.
Players can test this out themselves when the game begins its final closed beta test on Wednesday, November 25th. Signups are available on the game’s official site and will be open for PC, Android, and iOS. The test build promises to provide more of the game’s story, world, and mechanics, though characters will be wiped when the beta ends. Following the test, launch is set for sometime in the spring of 2027.
