Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has been a major success for Ubisoft, so much so that even the publisher is surprised. In its latest financial report, it revealed that the remake had sold 3.5 million copies to date, “exceeding annual expectations within its first 14 days.” Its last milestone was over three million sold within the first week, with reports claiming that it had outpaced Assassin’s Creed Shadows on Steam.

“The strong launch of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced in early July by Vantage Studios is an encouraging proof point,” said CEO Yves Guillemot. He noted that it’s the “highest-rated” title in the series since 2013’s Black Flag, and the company is “very pleased with the praise it received from players.”

He went on to thank “the teams whose talent and dedication brought it to life.” Of course, there’s no mention of Ubisoft Barcelona, which contributed heavily to the project and was rewarded with layoffs for 51 developers.

Regardless, even with controversial day-one DLC, Resynced is a hit among fans, and could very well signal more remakes in the franchise. For now, Ubisoft Singapore is working on post-launch support, including New Game Plus and allowing Edward to hide his blowpipe, as one would do.

While game director Richard Knight noted the possibility of at least one year of support for the remake, nothing is for certain. The team apparently has some DLC ideas, though, with a focus on Edward. So no, sadly, no Freedom Cry anytime soon, though Knight didn’t outright dismiss the possibility.
