No Man's Sky Celebrates 10th Anniversary & Teases Next Update In New Video

No Man’s Sky, one of gaming’s greatest comeback stories, celebrated its ten year anniversary with a new video covering its major updates over the years with an ending teasing its next one.

Earlier this year, I listed off ten VR classics celebrating their ten year anniversaries in 2026. I left No Man’s Sky off that list because it did not get VR support until the Beyond update in August 2019. That said, it sits alongside games like Hitman, Skyrim, and Fallout as well-known games to support virtual reality.

Developer Hello Games released a new video commemorating its history and growth after a legendarily disappointing launch. Watch the full video here:

The end of the video teases its next update, titled ‘Cosmos’ and a written statement from Hello Games’ Sean Murray confirms we can expect more info on that update soon.

VR support for high profile games has varied over the years. Skyrim and Fallout have borderline unplayable VR integrations that required extensive mod support to be worth playing. Elite Dangerous’ on-foot sequences like in 2021’s Odyssey update play out in a small flat panel window and still do not support motion controllers. Hitman: World of Assassination’s PC VR support was less than ideal for years until a new update in 2025 brought it in line with the excellent PlayStation VR2 version.

On the flip side, Capcom’s VR support for Resident Evil Biohazard, Resident Evil Village, and Resident Evil 4 Remake was all terrific. Microsoft Flight Simulator had a rough start in PC VR, but improved over the years and expanded to PS VR2 earlier this year.

No Man’s Sky’s VR support is not perfect. The game itself is notoriously resource heavy which has caused issues for players. I personally had to reduce the rendering resolution in my headset to less than fifty percent and set all of the graphics to the standard (low) setting to get an acceptable framerate on my old PC rig. The PS VR2 support was initially disappointing for players with complaints of blurry visuals until Hello Games added eye tracked dynamic foveated rendering and later PS5 Pro PSSR support.

That said, Hello Games is one of a small handful of developers, like IOI with Hitman, that believes in VR enough to maintain full VR support over the years, across multiple content updates, and work to improve the VR experience. After years of “big” games only being playable in VR thanks to fan-made mods, Hello Games deserves credit for its support. We can only hope that will extend to its upcoming title, Light No Fire.
