Resident Evil Requiem’s first (and possibly only) story expansion is officially in the works, and based on rumors, it’s focused on Leon S. Kennedy. However, Capcom has confirmed that a new mini-game will be added for free before then. And what else could it potentially be but the return of the fan-favorite Mercenaries Mode?
This is based on some recently datamined tracks by SYRKOV on Twitter. Totaling ten, they aren’t present anywhere in the base game, which could mean they’re used in the future. And given the action-focused nature of some, it’s likely that they could be for an equally pulse-pounding mode. Perhaps one with a timer that must be extended by slaying enemies (which would explain two of the tracks having what sounds like a ticking sound).
Of course, Capcom has never confirmed whether Mercenaries will ever be added (GameStop listing notwithstanding). Perhaps these tracks were cut from the base game, yet remain in the files, but the mode has appeared in Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 Remake. Given the praise for Requiem’s combat system, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to have it here.
Stay tuned for more updates, and in the meantime, check out our review for the base game. It’s available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, and has sold over six million units to date.
