Speaking of developers dropping gameplay out of nowhere, Game Science has revealed a new 15-minute trailer for Black Myth: Zhong Kui. It showcases the protagonist and a bit of story, as he escapes from an island with the help of an old man and ends up fighting brutal enemies.

Though taken from a work-in-progress build – since the title is still in “early development” – the gameplay reveals some pretty notable changes. For example, the protagonist can now parry and even redirect some attacks. Dodging is still a core part of defense, however, especially when avoiding attacks at the last second, but it seems you can do so in the middle of some attacks without interrupting the combo.

Aside from casting a fireball and absorbing its flames into his weapon or imbuing the latter with electricity, a summon is showcased. What makes this interesting is that the protagonist can fuse with them on the fly, significantly increasing damage dealt. Of course, visually, the game looks fantastic, and Game Science’s stellar art direction shines all the more in later scenes (especially one that seems more “present-day”).

Black Myth: Zhong Kui doesn’t have a release date, but it’s coming to consoles and PC. It’s also avoiding generative AI for assets and design, which you can learn more about here.
