If you’re intrigued by the idea of games that are somewhere between MMORPGs and small-scale multiplayer ventures, you might be interested to hear about a new game that is trying to split the difference. It’s called Minimo, and studio Low Drag Labs is calling it a “new multiplayer experience combining the scale of an MMO with the structure of a roguelike, throwing up to 200 players into a shared world for fast, chaotic 30-minute runs.”
Low Drag Labs’ Jon Selin then justifies his new game by declaring that the MMORPG genre isn’t serving “most” players.
“MMOs used to deliver some of the biggest, most unforgettable moments in gaming, but they’ve also become increasingly inaccessible for most players. […] With Minimo, we wanted to capture that magic and compress it into something fast, social, and endlessly replayable, a massive co-op experience you can jump into in just 30 minutes. It’s shared chaos, quick decisions, and unforgettable adventures.”
You can fight that one out in the comments, but we’re guessing MMORPG players would have a laugh since 2026 is quite literally the most accessible MMORPGs have ever been. But OK, he’s got a game to sell, and it still sounds neat. In fact, it actually sounds a lot like an MMOARPG like Marvel Heroes on speed, in that you can play solo or in a big rolling group with dozens of classes, but with some borrowed bits from extraction RPGs too.
Alpha signups are already live, and you can wishlist the game on Steam.
