007: First Light Actor Says Patrick Gibson Should be Cast in the Movies

Lennie James—who plays James Bond’s mentor John Greenway in the upcoming 007: First Light—has praised Patrick Gibson’s performance as the protagonist, and has even gone as far as to say that he should be a candidate for a new Bond in the next live-action movie. Speaking to Radio Times Gaming at the BAFTA Games Awards, James said that Gibson was “fantastic” as Bond.

“He’s fantastic in our version of Bond, and I genuinely think he should be a candidate for the main role that they’re trying to find someone for,” he said. “I’m sure he’s under consideration. The people in control would be mad not to consider him.”

The idea that Gibson might be under consideration for the next movie in the franchise shouldn’t be too far-fetched, since he plays a young version of Bond in 007: First Flight. At the same time, for the next live-action movie, Amazon has said that it wants someone under the age of 30 to play the character. James went on to note that “I think it’s entirely possible and that would be my hope,” when the subject was brought up.

007: First Light is being developed for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. While the first three platforms will be getting the game on May 27th, developer IO Interactive has delayed the Switch 2 release to Summer. While you wait for the release of 007: First Light, take a look at the upcoming game’s title sequence, featuring an original track—”First Light”—as performed by Lana Del Rey.

Just last week, the studio released a new trailer for 007: First Light, giving us an overview of the upcoming title’s gameplay. This includes Bond’s ability to blend in with his surroundings to scout out his next opportunities or even eavesdrop on conversations around him. Players will always have the option to sneak around as well, avoiding conflict as much as they’d like.

Since it’s going to be a Bond game, 007: First Light also features gadgets, like a smartphone that can hide tranquilizer darts. Players who get caught can then engage in full-on fights, with Bond having to rely more on his arsenal of weapons than his tools.

The studio has also confirmed that it has extensive plans for post-launch content once 007: First Light is out.

IO Interactive has also been quite active in giving fans behind-the-scenes looks into the development of 007: First Light. The studio has released a few dev diaries, with the latest one having come out earlier this month and focusing on the game’s sounds and music. Hosting the diary is audio director Dominic Vega and soundtrack composers The Flight.

Another dev diary from last month focused on the supporting cast of 007: First Light, including characters like M (Priyanga Burford), Miss Moneypenny (Kiera Lester), John Greenway (Lennie James), and Q (Alastair Mackenzie). Through the diary, the studio also reasserted the fact that 007: First Light will be an origin story for Bond.
