        • New The Witcher 3 DLC trailer marks the end of an era for the epic RPG

If you’ve spent the last 11 years holding off on purchasing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt‘s DLC, then boy does CD Projekt Red have a surprise for you. In addition to a new (and potentially free) Remastered version of the game full of quality of life improvements, both of the GOTY contender’s hefty expansions are now totally free.

Normally, The Witcher 3′s Blood and Wine DLC adds dozens of hours of gameplay for the price of $19.99. Hearts of Stone, the first expansion for the venerated RPG, offers a smaller array of content for $9.99. Taking into account the existing 16 pieces of free Witcher 3 DLC and the more recent next-gen updates, those prices were already a good deal. You can’t beat free, though.

If you haven’t played the DLC, timing might be tricky. While the DLC is free now, The Witcher 3 Remastered is scheduled for release on Sept. 29. It’ll come with a number of improvements like upgraded visuals, with CD Projekt Red promising that Geralt has “never looked better.” If you play now, you don’t have to wait. Alternatively, you may want to experience the best possible version of The Witcher 3, and that’s undoubtedly going to be the Remastered version.

What’s new in The Witcher 3 Remastered?

The Witcher 3 Remastered adds a variety of combat enhancements as well as better options for traversal, mount handling, and movement. Monsters have been fine-tuned with better AI behavior, and the entire skill tree has been revamped. The game’s photo mode has been expanded, and there’s an all-new tutorial. Looting and quest tracking have both been reworked. The list goes on, based on the trailer that debuted at Gamescom. It’s clear that CD Projekt Red went all out for the enhanced version of the game, so the fact that much of it will be free is ridiculous. Adding free DLC to the mix is the cherry on top.

Fans are in utter disbelief. “Holy FKN shit,” one Witcher 3 fan wrote on Reddit. “Free upgrade in today’s gaming world is wild,” another fan wrote on YouTube.

To get the free DLC, simply visit your respective platform’s digital storefront — that is, unless you’re on Nintendo Switch. Unfortunately, while everyone else gets free goodies, Nintendo’s port will not offer the same. There’s one consolation for Nintendo fans, though: A native version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered will soon be released on Nintendo Switch 2, alongside updates for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
