Starfield News is Coming “Soonish,” Says Todd Howard, But Don’t Expect “Starfield 2.0”

With all the rumors and hubbub surrounding Starfield over the past few months, Bethesda creative director Todd Howard has finally opened up about what fans can expect. There’s a big new update and content, which the team will talk about “soonish,” but you should probably temper expectations if you couldn’t get into the space-faring RPG before.

“Obviously, we’ve been working on a lot of Starfield content…I can tell everybody we are going to be talking about [the new content] really soon,” Howard told Kinda Funny Games (transcription via Kotaku). “We’re moving into a phase where we’re ready to talk about Starfield. And really show that in the right way, and what’s coming to the game. We’ve been doing a lot of work that we like a lot.”

As for hopes that the next update could mark the beginning of “Starfield 2.0,” Howard clarified that it’s not that. “You know, I’ve seen some of that, so for expectation-setting, I think it’s the kind of thing where if you love Starfield, we think you’re going to love this. It’s updates and things that change the game, not in an isolated way, but sort of meta. Using outer space and things in ways that we haven’t.” Perhaps hinting at the inclusion of proper interplanetary travel, as discovered through datamining?

However, if you didn’t like it in the first place, this likely won’t change your mind. “If Starfield is something that didn’t connect with you right away, or you bounced off it, or found it boring in places, I don’t think this is going to change that fundamentally.”

As we await new details, Howard noted the challenge of handling three major franchises with a “relatively small” studio of about 250. However, even as it approaches a significant milestone for The Elder Scrolls 6 (which is confirmed to use Creation Engine 3), Bethesda will continue supporting its newest IP. “We are doing more Starfield stuff coming up. It’s something we see continuing for a while.”

While Howard didn’t specify exactly when the studio would reveal more, it’s allegedly planning to tell all next month. It will apparently showcase the next paid expansion, which seemingly includes a new faction and the long-rumored PS5 port. As always, stay tuned for more details and updates, except if you’re someone expecting news on a Nintendo Switch 2 port.
