One of the hallmarks of a good art portfolio is a demonstration of various types of media and style, and that could certainly be said about the folks behind the upcoming new co-op RPG Serpent’s Gaze, which comes to us from the new indie studio Feeble Minds that’s made up of former devs whose body of work includes the co-op factory builder Satisfactory and the irreverent Goat Simulator series – and this game sounds like it couldn’t be more different from those titles if it tried.
“You play as a scion – given life by the withering tree god Magnolia, with the sole purpose of vanquishing the opposing gods and usurpers who currently rule the lands. There is only one path towards that goal – violence. But you choose how to tread that path, and along the way you’ll learn more about the secrets of the desert and the truth behind your patron in a story that subtly unfolds as you play.”
Serpent’s Gaze lets up to four players band together to carve their way through fierce enemies, even fiercer bosses, and random curses, blending together the tactical combat of a Soulslike with the slow power build found in roguelikes. Progression comes by way of various methods including selectable blessings, gifts from the character’s patron, and unique relics, all of which promise to help craft a playstyle.
The game is currently angling for a release sometime this year, but the Steam page allows for both wishlisting and the download of a playable demo. Otherwise, there’s a gameplay trailer below as well. Just do not expect goats or the simulation thereof.
