Philosophy and mathematics students might quibble over whether adding to infinity makes it any bigger, but that hasn’t stopped Satisfactory‘s first DLC, Core Values, from setting its sights on expanding the factory-building game’s already nigh-on endless progress toward optimization and efficiency.
Announced during the Big Break Showcase, Satisfactory Core Values is described as a “major expansion” which promises new biomes, buildings, a fresh storyline, and extra creatures including a cute alien cat which seems to have traded an eye for extra ears. Intriguingly, the expansion comes with some major and intentional constraints.
Opening up the purview of FICSIT Pioneers to include subsurface activities, Core Values will send players into the deep (but not entirely dark) depths of caverns below the planet’s crust. We can only hope that the new lifeforms and resources within are eager to be optimized and worked into stone-clad factory stations. Thankfully, it doesn’t sound like any mighty monsters are lurking down below.
The DLC also promises to introduce new buildings and tools that’ll allow players to harvest resources from the craggy terrain. The biggest challenge for Pioneers, however, is likely to be the layout of the subterranean land. Underground caverns, you see, have rather hard and rocky boundaries. With the landscape acting as a tighter constraint, there’s likely to be little room for the sprawling factory lines possible on the surface. Even more efficiency, you say? It wouldn’t be Satisfactory if that wasn’t the goal.
There’s no release date for Satisfactory’s Core Values DLC just yet, but anyone eager to jump in as soon as it arrives will need to have reached Tier 3 of HUB research after building the space elevator. Coffee Stain Studios promises that, while the DLC is a separate area, it’ll be possible to hop between Core Values and main story at will, meaning you don’t need to commit to the new content all in one go. The DLC reveal also doesn’t mean the end of support for regular old Satisfactory either.
“As development of the ‘Core Values’ DLC continues, the base game will continue to receive regular updates improving the experience for players on all platforms,” the accompanying press release notes.
Core Values wasn’t the only bit of Satisfactory news, either. There’s also a Satisfactory board game on the way from MOOD Publishing. It’ll see players competing to optimize their own engines and earn that coveted Employee of the Month title. Satisfactory: The Board Game is due to launch on funding platform Gamefound in 2026.
Those waiting for the Satisfactory Core Values expansion to arrive can still get stuck into everything added in the game’s 1.2 update earlier this year, which brought plenty of excuses to spend tens of hours restructuring your inevitably megalithic base.
