The Light Brigade has received its final content update. Update 5.0, which also updates the game’s name to The Light Brigade: The Definitive Edition, is available now for Meta Quest and Steam, with PlayStation VR2 to come later.

The Light Brigade first launched in February 2023 and developer Funktronic Labs has delivered five major content updates in the three-plus years since. Per an announcement in the developer’s Discord, Update 5.0 is its final update.

The final update includes the following:

  • Official Steam Frame support, described to be running “silky smooth at full native resolution.”
  • Lebes, a new biome, is a war-torn European town built for close-quarters combat with narrow streets, multiple levels, and small rooms.
  • Three new tarot sets (Aspect of Man, Aspect of War, Aspect of Peace) totaling thirty-eight new tarot cards bringing the total to ninety-nine unique cards with upgrades available
  • New crystal attachments adding effects to shots like boosted long-range damage, boosted close-range damage, earned gold or souls per shot, and damage to nearby enemies
  • A performance update, presumably directed more towards PC players, that further optimizes the game’s GPU performance to lower the number of framerate dips and let players increase the render scale up to twenty percent without losing performance.

Funktronic’s next project, flatscreen MMO-lite action RPG Scramble Knights Online, has been known for some time now, adding Funktronic to the growing list of developers exploring their options outside of VR gaming.

The Steam developer post for The Light Brigade: Definitive Edition included a message to its players from Funktronic:

Since the game’s initial release in February 2023, we’ve supported and expanded The Light Brigade through many major content updates and countless smaller updates. Your feedback helped us add new worlds, weapons, abilities, classes, enemies, challenges, and much more.

It has been an honor building this game alongside such an incredible community. Thank you for joining us on this journey and for helping make The Light Brigade what it is today.

The Light Brigade Definitive Edition update is available now on Meta Quest and PC VR. PlayStation VR2 will get the update at a later date.
