I’m legit excited to be returning to MMOs (and MMO-adjacent games) You’ve Never Heard Of today, and it’s not just because it clears out our newsroom faster, although that is also true. Today, it’s because the games look cool. And in one case, the reason you’ve never heard of it is that it’s new!

Farm RPG

Farm RPG is brand-new on Steam this week, and I stumbled into it because it’s flagged as an MMO. Developer Magic & Wires calls it a “menu based farming RPG/MMO,” so prepare yourself for the visuals of something like Melvor Idle rather than an idyllic farming sandbox, though it does have crafting and exploration, not just economy play. In fact, apparently this game is a PC port from mobile, where it’s already been successful, so the Steam reviews are flooded with mobile players happy to tell us the game is actually solid (if grindy). It’s free, so no risk giving it a go.

Heartwood Online

Heartwood is another cutesy game I stumbled into on Steam, though it’s not new; it’s been in free-to-play early access since 2023. Developer E Bros characterizes it as a “cross-platform free-to-play MMO,” and it, too, made the jump from mobile, complete with pixel graphics. It does look as though it gets quarterly updates, the last being in March, though Steam reviews complain that’s too slow.

Destruction AllStars

Finally, I’m sad to be mentioning here the Sony game Destruction AllStars because the reason we’ve heard of it is that it’s another game Sony is killing off. Based on the memo sent to players, Sony was having “ongoing technical issues” with multiplayer servers for the game, and rather than put resources into fixing that, Sony has just given up, saying “multiplayer servers […] shall remain offline and are no longer available.” That was May 26th, so multiplayer is long since toast. But Sony is also killing off the single-player modes too in November, so nobody will ever be able to play it. My dudes, this is what Stop Killing Games was made for. RIP.
