That Nintendo leak last week turns out to have been on the nose: Minecraft Dungeons 2 is indeed launching this fall, on September 29th, to be precise, on all the platforms you’re expecting (PC, Xbox, PlayStation 5, and Switch 1 and 2).
First announced back in March, the multiplayer game is a sequel to the original Minecraft Dungeons, which is basically a goofy roguelike set in the blocky Minecraft world, only with a bit of a glow-up, better combat, and a more linear path of exploration and combat.
In our post covering the original announcement, we told Mojang to take our monies, and it appears it’s willing to do that now. There’s a $30 option and a $50 option; that upgrade includes some cosmetics and skins, as well as the first two DLC. (First two DLC confirmed, then.) The preorder itself comes with two cosmetics too, including a twisted chicken pet. Sorry.
The launch date announcement comes with a few more notes about gameplay; it promises “an all-new chapter in the Minecraft Dungeons saga that takes you across the Overworld… and beyond,” gear, baddies, and teams of up to four players. That description and the accompanying video honestly just look like more Minecraft Dungeons, but that’s going to suit Minecraft Dungeons fans just fine since most of us just wanted more of that anyway.
