Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Climbs Up Steam’s Best Sellers List Following Brand New Day’s Release

The recent theatrical release of the latest web-slinging entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – Spider-Man: Brand New Day – has seemingly caused a considerable uptick in sales of Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. While sales data for the PS5 version aren’t as easily available, a quick look at the Steam Charts shows Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 sitting at the number 6 spot in the global top sellers list.

This is a recent phenomenon, as noted by Steam itself, since this is the game’s first week in the number 6 spot. The title is sitting under some of the most popular free-to-play titles out there – Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2 – as well as pre-established multiplayer title Street Fighter 6, which is sitting at second place, likely due to its 50 percent sale on Steam and recent roster addition. It is worth noting that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is also available at a heavy 33 percent discount on the storefront at the time of publishing.

The only other newer games above Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in the chart are PvPvE extraction action RPG Mistfall Hunter, and Game Freak’s upcoming third-person action-adventure game Beast of Reincarnation. Slightly under Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, sitting at 9th place, is Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, which is also available at a 60 percent discount.

Along with the discounts, the movie’s release has also likely played a major role in the success of both titles. Even Insomniac celebrated the movie’s release with a free update that added a new Spidey suit to the game inspired by Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Interestingly, just last week, actor Tom Holland revealed that he loves both Marvel’s Spider-Man games by Insomniac, and even tried to bring some of the games’ finishing moves into the movie.

“A lot of the finishing moves. I was actually playing the game last night. I couldn’t sleep last night; I was so excited about today. I was trying to figure out what I was gonna do, and I was like, ‘I’ll just throw the game on and have some fun.’ For me, a lot of those finishing moves, a lot of our stuff was influenced by that stuff.”

Director Destin Daniel Cretton went on to confirm that the games also have many fans amongst the movie’s design and stunt crew, resulting in many of them bringing in screenshots from the games into the writers’ room.

“A lot of the action designers and stunt people we had were huge gamers,” he said. “They were able to experience things in those games that made them excited, and they would just screengrab the moves they really liked and bring them into the writers’ room and show it to me. And then we’d be like, ‘Yeah, that’s sick. Let’s try to figure out how to do that for real.’”

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was released on PC back in January 2025 as part of Sony’s push to introduce PC players to more single-player PlayStation games. While the company’s efforts in that department have seemingly come to an end, it looks like the title has continued to enjoy its success.
