Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy Sales “Several Times Better” Than Expected Since Revelation Reveal

While the team behind the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy is working on Revelation, director Naoki Hamaguchi has revealed that the other two titles – Remake and Rebirth – have continued to sell quite well. In an interview with Automaton Media, Hamaguchi noted that both of them were selling “steadily” even before Revelation was unveiled during Summer Game Fest this year.

“They are doing extremely well. Even before Summer Game Fest 2026, both FF7 Remake and Rebirth had been selling steadily. Back when Rebirth was announced, every time it became a hot topic, sales of Remake would rise. Similarly, I’m sure every time Revelation attracts attention, more people will become interested in Rebirth,” he explained.

As for after the reveal of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, Hamaguchi revealed that the team saw “an enormous response in terms of sales.” While he didn’t reveal specific numbers for the two titles, he said that “sales are several times better than we had expected.” He went on to note that this might have to do with players becoming more interested now that the trilogy is coming to an end.

“I think fans and dedicated fan communities are very interested in how many copies the games have sold, but I can say they’re performing even better than most people probably imagine,” Hamaguchi said. “That means more and more people are playing the previous entries, which gives me great confidence as we prepare to release FF7 Revelation to the world.”

“I know there are requests for us to disclose the numbers, but that’s something that falls under our investor relations policies, so I hope people understand.”

When it comes to particular areas where the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy might be doing especially well, Hamaguchi said that PC as a platform is fostering a strong audience for the franchise. As for regions, while the titles have continued to be popular in English-speaking markets, there has also been noteworthy growth in the Simplified Chinese PC market as well.

“For starters, rather than a specific region, the numbers clearly show that PC gaming culture has become much stronger. Naturally, the English-speaking market remains very strong on PC, but the Simplified Chinese PC market has also grown to a comparable level, and we’re seeing that reflected in sales of both FF7 Remake and FF7 Rebirth.”

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is being developed for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Hamaguchi has recently said that, while details about a potential physical release of the game are unknown, he is working to try and make sure that some kind of physical release happens.

“We’re still having internal discussions on what the exact SKU product lineup is going to be for Revelation, so I can’t say anything particularly definitive at this point in time. But I am working to make the arrangements to allow us to have some kind of physical edition,” he explained.
