Stake your claim in this new game from ex-Overwatch devs

Ever wanted to be a cowboy and stake your claim on the land? The Legend of California is an indie multiplayer action-survival FPS that lets you do just that. Developed by Kintsugiyama and published by Dreamhaven (the game company of former Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime), The Legend of California is headed by a name that Overwatch fans will recognize: Jeff Kaplan.

Kaplan was one of the developers of World of Warcraft and the lead game director of Overwatch before he departed Blizzard in 2021. Despite being away from the franchise for years, it’s clear from the comments on The Legend of California teaser trailer that Kaplan’s time at Overwatch has earned him lifelong fans and support.

This Western-themed multiplayer is set on a mythical island called California during a gold rush era. Players can craft, gather, hunt, fight, and build across the island, thriving and creating bountiful communities. Depending on their playstyle, players can choose to do all of this alone or forge their destiny alongside friends.

The trailer shows players engaging in thrilling gunfights, as well as gathering resources in the mines to build their own homestead, making The Legend of California feel like a fine mix between the Red Dead Redemption and Mafia series.

“We formed our team around a single passion project: The Legend of California,” Kintsugiyama shared on their official website. “Four years in the making and there’s still a ways to go, but we’re excited to start sharing the world we’re building with players.”
