Worry not: Ranked mode is coming to Marathon soon. Bungie’s extraction shooter is receiving its own competitive game mode on Saturday, March 21.

On a base level, the Marathon‘s ranked mode will be similar to other competitive games in that everyone will start out in Bronze and must climb their way to the top to reach Pinnacle. However, as this is an extraction shooter, there are a few rules that you’ll need to follow.

Here’s everything we know about ranked mode in Marathon and when it will be released in your time zone.

Update (March 17): Bungie has released official news regarding Marathon‘s ranked mode, and we’ve adjusted this article accordingly.

Marathon ranked mode release date and time

Runners can deploy into Marathon‘s ranked mode on Saturday, March 21 at 1 p.m. EDT, according to the timer in-game. Here’s when that is in your time zone:

  • 10 a.m. PDT on Saturday, March 21 for the west coast of North America
  • 1 p.m. EDT on Saturday, March 21 for the east coast of North America
  • 2 p.m. BRT on Saturday, March 21 for Brazil
  • 5 p.m. GMT on Saturday, March 21 for the U.K.
  • 6 p.m. CET on Saturday, March 21 for western Europe
  • 2 a.m. JST on Sunday, March 22 for Japan
  • 4 a.m. AEDT on Sunday, March 22 for the east coast of Australia

Marathon ranked mode, explained

To play a ranked game in Marathon, you’ll need to prepare similarly like you do for a regular match. You’ll need to choose your desired zone and assemble a loadout before you deploy. However, in ranked, your loadout needs to meet or exceed the gear ante, which is how much your loadout is worth.

Additionally, you need a Holotag to determine your score target. Your score target will determine the credit value of loot you must exfiltrate with. If you don’t meet or exceed the value while exfiltrating, you will not make any progress. To ensure that you’re finding new loot, the loadout that you bring in will be unscored, and any consumables and ammo found during the run will not count toward your crew’s score.

Your score target is directly associated with your rank. The higher your rank, the higher score target you’ll need to reach. The ranks in Marathon are as follows, from lowest to highest:

  • Bronze
  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Platinum
  • Diamond
  • Pinnacle

Additionally, each rank will be split up into three: 3, 2, and 1, with 3 being the lowest. This means all runners will start out in Bronze 3, and will need to progress through Bronze 2 and 1 to reach Silver 3.

For runners that are Platinum or higher, you can access high-stakes zones, which is assumed to have better loot, but also more risk.

Marathon ranked rewards

With every ranked mode comes ranked rewards. The first time you earn a new rank in Marathon, you’ll receive a reward package from the Codex. Inside, you’ll cosmetic rewards and valuable loot. However, some ranks will feature exclusive rewards, so make sure to climb to the highest ranks if you want the rarest prizes.

It’s also important to note that some rewards will be available to you as soon as you earn them, but others will be dished out in the next season.
