Crimson Desert is Close to 5 Million Sales, R&D Begins on Switch 2 Port

Despite a wide range of reviews, both positive and mixed, Pearl Abyss’s Crimson Desert is enjoying significant success. After reaching two million sales in its first 24 hours, it sold over three million copies in about five days, which was enough to cause the company’s stock (that initially dropped by nearly 30 percent) to soar once more. And the momentum isn’t slowing.

CEO Heo Jin-young noted in a shareholder meeting that the company is looking to “quickly share news” of selling five million copies. As reported by Yonhap News Agency (translation via Resetera), “Next, we aim to quickly share news of reaching 5 million copies sold with our shareholders, and all employees will work hard to achieve the best possible results by the end of the year,” said Heo.

With how well the open-world action-adventure has been optimized for various platforms, is there any possibility of a port for Nintendo Switch 2? Nothing is set in stone right now with the CEO noting that, “Compared to other consoles, the Switch still has lower specifications, so there are things we would have to give up.” Nevertheless, Pearl Abyss has “begun R&D with interest.”

While alleged issues with other big-name releases, such as Borderlands 4 and Starfield, may give reason for pause for triple-A development on the Switch 2, Pearl Abyss’s BlackSpace Engine has proven fairly malleable. Of course, time will tell, and there’s no guarantee that it could arrive for Nintendo’s platform anytime soon.

Crimson Desert is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. You can check out our reviews for PS5/PS5 Pro and PC in the meantime.
