If Remedy Entertainment’s titles have taught us anything, it’s that the mind is a multi-faceted instrument of destruction, a haven, and near-limitless in potential. The Mind Palace from Alan Wake 2 leaned towards that, but Control Resonant is going even bigger with the Gap. And no, not the clothing store.
As revealed in a new YouTube Short (of all places), the Gap is available outside of combat and “shifts” to fit whatever protagonist Dylan Faden needs. For instance, this is where his skill trees and Resonant abilities will metaphysically manifest. It’s also where you can access Aberrant upgrades, abilities and talents.
Interestingly, it mentions that you can “craft the perfect build” and test it before venturing back out into Manhattan. This seemingly implies that players have free rein to experiment with different set-ups, and that leaving the Gap will finalize them. It’s a great way to encourage trying other play-styles, if nothing else.
Of course, there’s also mention of selecting rewards earned from defeating the powerful Resonants. We’ll wait for more details to be sure, but the returning Shield from Control 1 is one such ability.
Control Resonant is available later this year on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. It boasts the “biggest gameplay team” that Remedy has ever fielded. However, newcomers can still enjoy it even without experiencing the original.
