Control Resonant is “Not A Safe Sequel,” As Remedy Aims for “Our Biggest and Most Ambitious Game”

Leave it to Remedy Entertainment, which has titles like Alan Wake 2 and Control to its credit, to aim for even higher highs with its next project. Of course, we’re talking about Control Resonant, a sequel to the 2017 original, which sees Dylan Faden venturing through Manhattan to stop a paranatural threat in what could be the studio’s “biggest and most ambitious game” yet.

If the announcement trailer wasn’t enough indication, Remedy isn’t resting on the first game’s laurels. “We wanted to challenge ourselves to make the biggest and most ambitious game we’ve ever made. This is not a safe sequel. We want to push the boundaries of what we can do, and we believe after 7 years it’s what you, the fans, deserve,” it said on Twitter.

Described as an open-ended action RPG, there are “expansive zones” to uncover in Manhattan that players can tackle “in an order.” So while Dylan is fighting off horrors with his own abilities and the transforming Aberrant, desperately searching for his missing sister and trying to save the world, you can happen upon different branching missions and encounters.

“This world is alive, strange, and replayable – full of discoveries that reward curiosity and exploration,” said co-creative director Mikael Kasurinen following the game’s reveal. More recently, Remedy revealed that Dylan would “forge new connections” and “confront the deeds of his past.” There are even “impossible choices” to make, which can “decide the fate of humanity.”

Which sounds all well and good, but when can fans expect new details? The developer promises to dive into Dylan’s mission and the world “soon,” but whether that’s a Spring State of Play-level “soon” or a Summer Game Fest-level remains to be seen.
