The Golden Joystick Awards are officially in the bag, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has emerged as the clear winner. It won in all six of its nominated categories: Best Storytelling, Best Visual Design, Best Soundtrack, Best Lead Performer (Jennifer English as Maelle) and Best Supporting Performer (Ben Starr as Verso), with Sandfall Interactive winning Studio of the Year.
But that’s not all, as it also picked up the Ultimate Game of the Year award. Other notable winners include R.E.P.O. for Best Early Access Game, Lies of P: Overture for Best Expansion, PEAK for Best Multiplayer Game and Streamers’ Choice, Blue Prince for Best Indie Game and Hollow Knight: Silksong for Best Indie Game – Self-Published and PC Game of the Year.
However, with 12 nominations at The Game Awards, could this be a herald of things to come for Clair Obscur? Could it similarly sweep aside the competition? Time will tell, but considering that Baldur’s Gate 3 is the only other title to win this many categories at the Golden Joystick Awards, it’s in good company.
Of course, Sandfall Interactive’s journey with the hit role-playing game, which has sold five million copies, isn’t over. It’s working on a free update that adds a new location, boss battles and outfits for release in the future.
