Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced’s game director, Richard Knight, has revealed during an interview with JorRaptor that the development team is currently working on a way to hide the blowpipe. He also acknowledged that the blowpipe looks quite strange at moments, and that “one of our most senior programmers is working on it right now.”

While he didn’t give a solid release date for the blowpipe-hiding update, Knight said, “I have a feeling it’s coming soon.”

When asked why the option to hide the blowpipe wasn’t available in the game right from launch, Knight explained that it comes down to how character models have been designed in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. Setting up distinct event triggers for when an object is visible and when it can’t be seen requires a lot more effort than players would realize.

“I wish it was just a magical feature that just was there the moment it started, but it’s just because of the way characters are set up,” he explained. “Somebody has to do the setup to make this specific part of the character just disappear only when this specific setting is enabled, which you know we need to do.”

In the same interview, Knight had also spoken about how the development team for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced had to leave out many of the combat gameplay options present in the original to instead focus on core gameplay. When asked about whether Edward will, for example, get back his ability to pick up and use his enemies’ weapons, Knight said that fans of the game should keep asking for things like this.

“We can’t make any promises, [but] we’re listening to the community,” he said. “We’re interested in what people want the most.”

As for his combat capabilities, Knight also noted that Edward is an incredibly overpowered character thanks to his proficiency with dual swords as well as a strong arsenal of other weapons and tools.

“During development, if you looked at Edward – he’s so powerful right now and has so many tools – and so we prioritized core combat because we needed to nail that,” he said. “Something like throwing weapons, while it’s cool, it’s just like ‘he already has ten ways to kill somebody’. So, given the cost to reinvent the feature and rebuild it from the ground up with today’s characters, rigs, and animations, there’s a lot more that goes into it. It was just lower priority for us.”

Another feature confirmed to be making its way to Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, according to Knight, is a New Game Plus mode. “Yes, we’re working on that right now,” he said. “For sure. It’s one of the first things.”

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced was released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S earlier this month. Despite drawing early criticisms due to its inclusion of power-boosting DLCs, the title has managed to do quite well, hitting a concurrent player count of almost 100,000 on Steam right after its release.
