You know him as a dirty cop in The Rookie, or perhaps as Ray Palmer, aka The Atom, in the Arrowverse. But Brandon Routh’s smoldering intensity is put to good use in the second episode of Hour Zero, the live-action prequel to Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve.
We already knew he was playing a doctor on the show, but what we didn’t know was exactly how taxing that job could be in a country at war. The good doctor has already suffered tremendously thanks to the conflict, selflessly trying to save others from the same pain. However, his motivations and dedication are tested when a high-ranking Sokoan enters the picture with intel that’s too valuable to write off. Of course, things don’t go according to plan, but it’s always good to watch a brave man stand up to authority for what he believes in.
We’ve also got a possible lead on the identity of the mysterious Wings of Theve, a pilot whose first name might be Cliff, and whose father has now passed on to a world where there’s hopefully less hostility. It’s only the second episode of the six-episode prequel, but things are already so intense we can’t help but wonder what fresh moral dilemmas await us in the rest of its runtime.
