Hoyoverse’s new game, Nodusfall, has caught plenty of comparisons with FromSoftware’s Soulslike titles owing to the design of its world and creatures. In a social media post, however, the studio has said that the mythology-themed action game won’t be particularly difficult, and that the team doesn’t want Nodusfall to have difficulty as a barrier for new players.
“The game is designed to be accessible even for players who are new to this type of action gameplay, while still maintaining a high ceiling in terms of controls, coordination, and builds, giving players who love a challenge plenty of room to dive deeper.”
The studio also revealed other details about Nodusfall, like the fact that its core gameplay loop won’t entirely revolve around taking on epic boss fights. Along with its co-op action, players will also get to experience a story that blends several various mythologies from around the world. There will also be plenty of ways for players to just hang out and relax with their friends. “Play a duet with a friend, soak in the hot springs. There’s always a rhythm and a place that’s just right for you even beyond combat.”
On the subject of how Nodusfall uses mythology, Hoyoverse has noted that the title won’t simply be about “making ‘different worlds collide.’” Rather, the team’s goal was to investigate how different civilizations would interact with each other when their conflicting beliefs and understanding clash. “What players encounter, then, is not merely a collection of mythological stories from different cultures, but a shared narrative that spans civilizations – one that asks why the world exists, and how humanity should face its fate.”
Hoyoverse has also reiterated that Nodusfall won’t feature a gacha system for character unlocks. Rather, players will simply have to play through the game to get their hands on new characters. There might be other forms of monetization for the free-to-play game, however, but “the team is still carefully planning further details” for now.
While the announcement trailer for Nodusfall put plenty of emphasis on co-op gameplay, Hoyoverse has said that solo players can also experience the vast majority of the game without having to dive into multiplayer. However, multiplayer is still a major focus for the studio, especially with the “Divine Drain” mechanic – a customizable system that offers a wide variety of gameplay effects.
The team has confirmed that it is targeting a PC release for now, and more details about Nodusfall coming to other platforms will be confirmed at a later date.
Nodusfall was unveiled during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live showcase just last month, and marks a major shift for Hoyoverse since it doesn’t use the same anime-inspired art styles that the studio is known for with titles like Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail. The announcement trailer showcased plenty of the epic boss fights that players will be able to take on, while also giving us glimpses of its strange world.
The bosses are also expected to offer a fair level of challenge to players, with the studio noting that co-op teams will need to make sure that their tactics are sound in order to win.
