So do you remember when we got some fresh word out of the rebooted Shards Online aka Legends of Aria Eternal after we were marking some pretty notable silence? Well, it would seem as if we have an answer about why there was a bit of a gap: The MMORPG’s original lead dev Derek Brinkmann has been helping out with the development of a new co-op game, at least at an executive level.
The title is known as Voidwood, and it’s a co-op survival horror game for up to four players who play as children trapped in a haunted wood, where they must scavenge by day, then survive through the night as they’re stalked by a terror known as the Beast and other terrors. The game’s major hook appears to be its use of integrated voice chat and spatial audio, as it stresses careful use of speaking volume when being stalked.
Brinkmann himself touted the game in his tweet while his Twitter profile also confirmed him as CTO of Voidwood developer Santa Barbara Games. “Excited to finally be able to share what I’ve been working on the past two years,” he writes. “We have an amazing team!”
As for the game itself, it’s projecting a release sometime in 2027. For now, there’s a gameplay trailer below and it can be wishlisted on Steam if spooky scary survival is your thing.
Legends of Aria Eternal, incidentally, brought its playtest back online earlier this week with a new update.
