The back half of 2026 is shaping up to be one of the busiest few months for game releases in recent memory. The big one is Grand Theft Auto 6, which will finally drop on Nov. 19. To avoid that entire month, other games have moved into earlier months like October and September. Lords of the Fallen 2 will not be one of those games, as it has been delayed from a planned fall 2026 release.

Marek Tymiński, the CEO of developer CI Games, took to X to announce that Lords of the Fallen 2 is now set for a Q1 2027 release window. The reasoning is that the development team “has identified meaningful opportunities to further refine and strengthen the overall experience,” and that pushing the release will enable, “the team to deliver the highest possible quality at launch.” Of course, Tymiński also notes the delay will “strategically” position the game away from the pile-up of games already fighting for attention this fall. By moving Lords of the Fallen 2‘s release, Tymiński hopes the game will receive more attention.

Lords of the Fallen 2 is a sequel to the original 2023 title (not the 2014 game that was also titled Lords of the Fallen). Like its predecessor, Lords of the Fallen 2 is a Soulslike with a focus on tough combat. The game is set to be something of a stand-alone sequel, taking place 100 years after the original.

Lords of the Fallen was an alright Soulsike that we called “an exhausting technical achievement” in our review. A 2.0 update in 2025 made some improvements and a full sequel could improve on the formula even more. Development of Lords of the Fallen 2 hasn’t been without some level of controversy, as the game’s female armor designs have been seen as regressive by critics. CI Games calls the designs in question, which show female characters with little coverage and lots of bare skin, “provocative.”

Delays, as Tymiński points out, aren’t always a sign of trouble in development. More developers taking the time needed to deliver on a better product is a net positive for developers and players. Just look at Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, which will also likely benefit from its delay into 2027. If you were looking forward to Lords of the Fallen 2 this fall, then you can instead choose from one of the dozens of other games still releasing. That includes Blood of the Dawnwalker (Sept. 3), Marvel’s Wolverine (Sept. 15), Control Resonant (Sept. 24), Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve (Oct. 2), Final Fantasy Resonance (Oct. 22), and Grand Theft Auto 6 on Nov. 19. Not to mention many, many more.

In the meantime, Tymiński assures that the team “remains fully energized by the strong response to our recent reveals and is deeply focused on delivering a standout dark fantasy action RPG and a worthy successor to the Lords of the Fallen franchise.”

Lords of the Fallen 2 is slated for release in 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
