If you follow ArenaNet on social media, you might have noticed that the Guild Wars 2/Guild Wars Reforged studio has been teasing something unusual today.
The Bluesky post simply says, “The wind stirs. The world shifts. Stand ready.” The 18-second video accompanying it shows a painterly vision of Tyria and the a date: June 5th. The Twitter post is more specific; alongside the same video clip, it tells players to “tune in to Summer Game Fest on 06/05/2026” because “[b]ig things in the #games industry are brewing.” Intriguingly, the videos and messages don’t refer to any specific game, which naturally has led the playerbase to start chanting Guild Wars 3 in unison.
Readers will recall that NCsoft executives straight up announced that ArenaNet was working on Guild Wars 3 back in March of 2024 during a total clownshow of a shareholder meeting. NCsoft and ArenaNet desperately tried to claw back the casual reveal in the days after that, suggesting it was just in the review stage, but nobody was fooled.
Alternative theories right now hold that perhaps ArenaNet is just running a sweet trailer at SGF, which admittedly it has paid to do before; that it’s announcing Guild Wars 2’s next expansion or expansion format, which has been the subject of considerable consternation since the team hasn’t confirmed the next expansion at all; or that it has something to do with Guild Wars Reforged, like the upcoming mobile launch or maybe even a new campaign.
But of course, at this point, the genre could really use the promise of a Guild Wars 3. See you Friday.
