Military sim MMO fans will most definitely want to point their eyeballs at the announcement Wargaming just made: The company is officially launching World of Tanks: HEAT a week from today. HEAT is a spinoff from the long-running tank MMO World of Tanks; Wargaming is calling it the “first ever hero-driven tank action game.” It’s free-to-play to boot.
“World of Tanks: HEAT, a new standalone free-to-play tactical vehicle shooter, launches on May 26,” the studio says. “Set in an alternate post-WWII era, HEAT delivers a faster, more dynamic take on armored warfare driven by team-based combat. […] HEAT is built from the ground up on a new proprietary engine developed in-house by Wargaming. This technology delivers modern visuals and immersive environments while enabling fast, responsive gameplay optimized for smooth performance across a wide range of hardware.”
Notably, the game will run on all the things – PC, Steam Deck, PS5, Xbox X|S, and GeForce Now – with both cross-platform play and cross-progression. We’re looking at eight agents thus far across the defender, assault, and marksman roles, plus 15 vehicles, eight maps, and four PvP modes: Hardpoint, Control, Kill Confirmed, and Conquest.
