As Battlefield Studios gets ready for Battlefield 6 Season 3, the developers have explained all of the new content that will be coming to the shooter and its free-to-play battle royale mode, REDSEC, through a community update. Season 3 content will be arriving to Battlefield 6 and REDSEC on May 12th.

Headlining the update will be a remake of classic Battlefield 4 map Golmud Railway. Dubbed Railway to Golmud, the map will feature extensive refinements over its original iteration, including an additional engine for the train. Railway to Golmud will be the biggest Battlefield 6 map so far, coming in at four times the size of Mirak Valley.

When it comes to gameplay improvements, Battlefield Studios is continuing to evaluate weapon behavior and time-to-kill, with a focus on improving consistency and depth. Recoil behavior will be seeing adjustments as part of this for players of all control scheme, in turn making weapon performance easier to understand.

Testing for improvements to netcode and hit registration are also continuing through Battlefield Labs. Soldier visibility is also a major concern for the development teams, and updates will be coming out to bring in improvements on that front over the course of Season 3.

The role of mortar has also been a major source of discussion, and Battlefield Studios wants to reinforce the fact that it is meant to be used as a teamplay-focused tool. This means that squad members should constantly communicate with each other when using mortars to ensure that appropriate targets are set. Season 3 onwards, mortars will no longer regenerate ammo when deployed, and longer ranges will lead to reduced accuracy.

More updates are in the works for later during Season 3, which will, among other things, improve how land vehicles function based on community feedback, and how the ping system works, with an emphasis on consistency and responsiveness. Matchmaking is also seeing continuous adjustments in the backend.

When it comes to the playlist UI, players will start noticing a few changes in how content is organized. The Featured row, for instance, is being completely replaced with a new Quickplay row. The Multiplayer row is seeing a similar reorganization to reduce the need for horizontal scrolling. Things like Custom Search and single-mode playlists will be separated from mixed-mode experiences.

REDSEC players also have plenty to look forward to thanks to the introduction of the Ranked Battle Royale mode for Quads players.

Battlefield 6 and REDSEC are available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
