Readers may remember that back in 2023, we first heard about Wayfinder Studios, a new indie game developer being formed by former members of DICE, and its very early work on a persistent online co-op fantasy RPG intended for small groups of friends. Well, we now know more about this title thanks to a recent press release about its Kickstarter, including its name: Wyldheart.
Described as a co-op action RPG “set in a rustic fantasy world,” Wyldheart lets between one and four players seamlessly drop in and out of online multiplayer, taking on bite-sized campaigns set in the hand-crafted world of Caerwyn. The campaigns themselves are planned to provide about 10 hours of main story and 15 hours of side content.
Players can choose from three distinct races and 19 unique backgrounds, while combat is active and features a classless system that lets players combine skills from trees like dungeoneering, survival, and magic. Players can also cook meals, discover quests in towns and ruins, and upgrade their gear, while XP is shared among the party and difficulty scales dynamically with group size, meaning nobody should be left behind.
As of this writing, the Kickstarter campaign is just nearing its final crowdfunding total of €150K (over $175K), with a little over $150K raised and 15 days remaining. The devs at Wayfinder Studios have also announced beta plans, with an initial beta of the game’s starting portion between May 15th and June 22nd, followed by full closed beta access from June 22nd to its undated early access release. Assuming it hits its all-or-nothing funding total, anyway.
As usual, we advise anyone who is wanting to throw crowdfunding money at an incomplete game to be aware of what they’re spending on. To that point, a sizzle reel and a gameplay explainer video both can be watched below.
