Hey, remember Guns of Icarus? You might not. We haven’t covered it since 2021, when we checked in on it to find out what had happened to the well-liked Kickstarted airship combat MMO and its PvE spinoff, Guns of Icarus Alliance. While Steam reviews for both are still glowing, the playerbases had unfortunately shrunk to basically a tiny trickle of Steam players, which a check-in shows is still true today.
But studio Muse Games hasn’t been idle; it popped out a co-op fire-rescue game called Embr a few years ago, and now, it’s introducing a return to the “of Icarus” franchise with the Stars of Icarus, which has a fresh playtest kicking off today.
“Stars of Icarus is the continuation of a decade-long legacy. Guns of Icarus Online pioneered the crew-based PvP airship experience back in 2012. Stars of Icarus is the next chapter, providing a modernized experience of the classic multiplayer PvP experience. Form a crew of five to face off against each other. Choose your ship, join your squadron, customize your loadout, and become the Frontier’s most lethal crew. Will you master the stars or go out in a blaze of glory?”
The test running today runs through June 8th and includes a new map, an art pass on ships, UI tweaks, and gameplay balance; competitive mode and player lobbies are already in place. You can sign up with the “request access” button through Steam, which is listing a 2026 launch.
